Get signed with the first all-digital A Cappella Record Label

Want to sign with A Cappella Records? ACR licenses, distributes, and promotes a cappella artists worldwide. We do purely digital distribution through the major online music retailers such as iTunes and Amazon MP3. Through partnerships with some of the top a cappella organizations and companies, ACR is the easiest way for a cappella groups to get their music out to the world.

Licensing The most popular type of a cappella songs are "cover" songs. Cover songs represent the heart and soul of the collegiate a cappella world, but are also songs being scrutinized by copyright lawyers. To make sure ACR can distribute all your music globally and legally, we obtain mechanical licenses for all of your songs. We take care of all royalty payments, making sure that our artists (and their affiliated universities) are legally protected.

Distribution ACR has embraced a purely digital model because we believe this makes the most effective model for a cappella groups. Using this model, we can internationally distribute your music without incurring inventory or shipping costs. ACR places your songs in the hands of primary retailers which consumers already know and use.

Promotion Getting your music onto the major digital retailers is only half the battle. ACR has designed a robust promotional strategy which makes it easy for your fans and potential fans to find, preview, and purchase your music--for this, we have designed a flash player that integrates itself into the websites and online profiles of our artists. In addition, ACR's established partnerships with leading a cappella organizations allows our company to increase exposure and access to our artists' music.

What's the business deal?

A Cappella is a unique genre. It consists of mainly cover songs, membership changes on an annual basis, and has the need for fast and inexpensive distribution. That's why ACR chooses to sign albums instead of artists. We have no say or sway in how, when, or where an artist's album is produced nor are we involved with physical CDs.

ACR's artists like partners; you give us permission to distribute a particular album and we apply our services. ACR charges $100 per album to handle all licensing and distribution fees. Net sales revenues are split evenly and a significant portion of our share is used to further promote your music. We do not own any of your music, nor any part of your group. We solely ask for exclusive digital distribution, so that we can keep you legally protected every time someone downloads your music.

Financial Breakdown

For a typical 99¢ download from iTunes,
Consumer Pays: 99¢
iTunes Cut (30%): 30¢
Royalties (9.1¢ per song): 9.1¢

Typical revenue after marketplace costs is 50 to 60 cents. This is split between the label and artist evenly. ACR never makes more money from song revenue than the artist, and we deliver quarterly reports and payments detailing your sales. Our financial statements are prepared and reported by a CPA and subject to auditing.
