Since the founding of The Amalgamates in 1984, the mates have put out an album in an effort to capture and culminate the past two years of hard work and fun. We like to think of our albums as "yearbooks," not only reminding us of the popular music at the time, but also of memories and sentiments associated with particular songs. The Mates just released our 11th album, PRIME. This album is an eclectic mix of music ranging from Foo Fighters, to Radiohead, to Pat Benetar. We have been known to be a group with a warm, natural sound and this album, though high in energy, was recommended as one for the purists.

Transportation and housing are perennial dilemmas for touring a cappella groups. In 1997, the Amalgamates came up with an ingenious solution to both problems, and borrowed one of their grandmother's trailers for their winter tour up and down the east coast. A follow-up to the Mates' award-winning Hat Sale, Get Mama! (1996), Grandma's Camper solidified the Amalgamates as a force to be reckoned with in the collegiate a cappella scene. The album has garnered solid reviews, a BOCA 1999 selection ("I Don't Want To Wait"), and 1999 CARA nominations for Best Mixed Collegiate Album and Best Mixed Collegiate Solo (Courtney Simson)

Released 2010

Recorded from 2008-2010, this album almost did not get made. The name, "Flipping Out", references a slippery accident on a icy winter night in Vermont. Thankfully the only casualty was John's flipped SUV and the Bostonians lived on to make more music. Recorded by John Clark and Dan Viafore. Additional editing by Kate Luskin, Justin Maccaro and Karel Olsson. Mixed and mastered by John Clark at The Attic Studio, Jamaica Plain, MA. 2009.

Released 2010

Since 1968, the Grains of Time have been the premiere men's a cappella group at North Carolina State University. Although rooted in a rich tradition of glee club and barbershop style harmony, the grains have continually worked to develop a more modern and contemporary performance style as reflected by many major breakthroughs with "For Your Ears Only." It is our hope that this album encompasses the hard work put in during the past two years and that you enjoy "For Your Ears Only" as much as we have enjoyed creating it.

14 Tracks
Released 2008

Three Sheets to the Wind was recorded between the years of 2005 and 2008, featuring the then current members of the group. On this album, The Hangovers show off their versatility, performing everything from R. Kelly to Franz Biebl's Ave Maria (originally premiered in the United States by the Cornell University Glee Club in 1970). Additionally, they represent their Glee Club roots through the performances of Oh, Chariot, Ave Maria, and a hidden track, Lake Cayuga. These two factors, combined with the supreme mix of song choice, make this an album that shouldn't be passed up. From the upbeat groove of Here In Your Arms to the beautiful sounds of Gulf War Song, this album is sure to leave listeners wanting to hear it again.

Juxtaposition

Off Main

Off Main

10 Tracks
Released 2009

Off Main is the newest of Juxtaposition's seven albums. The album features ten songs from drastically varied artists while still providing a connectedness to the theme of the album which takes pride in performing songs that are just off the beaten path, commonly referred to as "mainstream." The title "Off Main" can be taken literally since Virginia Tech is a campus that sits just west of Main street, while also being a loose implication to the avoidance of mainstream music in our repertoire. The tracks for the CD were recorded in our former music director's garage with our unmistakably professional setup consisting of plywood, foam, and duct tape. It sure is a good thing that there isn't much of a correlation between appearance and sound quality. We were able to record and produce the album in the timeframe of December 2008 - April 10, 2009 with the mixing and mastering done by Dave Sperandio of Diovoce.

Backgammon Sessions is OtR's second studio release. After ironing out the kinks of their first album release of OtR, Backgammon Sessions put OtR in the national spotlight with "Yellow" by Coldplay making onto BOCA (Best of Collegiate A Cappella) and the first OtR original "I Would Fly" by Chris Dobson. Backgammon is still a favorite among current OtR fans and members because of its "pure" sound. Although this album was recorded in the studio, Backgammon stays close to its roots in pure vocal talent!

The Opportunes

Bring Me Back

Bring Me Back

12 Tracks
Released 2009

The Opportunes are proud and excited to release their newest album, Bring Me Back. Like its predecessors, Bring Me Back is twelve tracks of pure, student-bred a cappella: each song is arranged, performed, and selected by group members. This album celebrates the group's musical versatility, featuring R&B favorites alongside mellow country, mellifluous ballads, punchy pop and powerful gospel.

In accordance with long-standing tradition, the Opportunes have devoted the penultimate track to an elaborate pop medley framed around Shannon's 1983 hit Let the Music Play. The result is a collection of recent radio chart-toppers that serves as a time capsule for the particular group of individuals who comprise the 2007-2009 Opportunes.

The album's title is derived from the lyrics to its sixth track, "Gravity." It refers to this special ballad and celebrates the life-force of the Opportunes, whose members are always welcome to come back.

Bring Me Back was recorded in The Attic Studio in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. It is 100% a cappella.

"The major theme of Sing 2: Eclectic Boogaloo is audible excellence." The CD supersizes your listening pleasure by adding five additional tracks to the mix of stellar music. The compilation includes six original songs from the pop and r&b worlds and several previously unreleased tracks. Called the "BOCA + CARA" of the former Alliance for A Cappella Initiatives, the album reached beyond its Southern roots to deliver some of the most amazing tracks coming out of North America. Another feature of the album is the emergence of kick-ass and rocking female a cappella as the ladies capture the attention of the testosterone-laden populace again.

Released 2000

Stanford Mixed Company's seventh recorded album, The Other Side of Blue, was released to critical acclaim in the spring of 2000, and it remains one of the group's most popular albums to this day. It was nominated for multiple CARAs, including Best Mixed Collegiate Album, Best Mixed Collegiate Arrangement, and Best Mixed Collegiate Soloist. Moreover, the track "Someday" was featured on the 2001 Best of College A Cappella CD, and it serves as a standout track in The Other Side of Blue's compilation of "consistent and beautifully complex" arrangements. Stuck in the Middle

11 Tracks
Released 2010

From the revved-up beats of track one, a cover of Cake's instrumental "Arco Arena," to the last smooth and soulful note of "Sweetest Girl," the potency of Stuck in the Middle's third studio album marks this record as a breakthrough for the group. Featuring the energizing "Jai Ho," which was selected to appear on the Voices Only A Cappella 2010 compilation album, as well as a music video special feature of "Disarm" from SIM's last album, Melophonophobia, clap.stomp. is testament to the group's success since its founding in 2002.

This selection of feel-good, rock-out songs from the 80s ("Thriller," "I Melt With You," "Tarzan Boy"), feeling and sensitive tunes from Josh Groban and Howie Day, as well as the latest in pop music (Timbaland, Chris Cornell, Rascal Flatts) establishes Stuck in the Middle as a college a cappella group that, despite the cliché, is here to stay.

Melophonophobia means "the fear of a cappella" and is Stuck in the Middle's second studio album. Recorded in the summer of 2007 at TapeWorks in Connecticut and released in the spring of 2008, the album upholds the philosophy that a cappella should be fun and accessible above all else. It features songs from Three Dog Night's classic "Joy to the World" to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" to the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights." With variety and pizazz, the album not only sounds good, it feels good too.

Where's the Album

Where's the Album

4 Tracks
Released 2008

Where's the Album? is a four-track sampler from VoiceMale, and this little compilation has already earned the opening slot on BOCA 2009 ("Where's the Love [Remix]") and CARA nominations for Best Soloist ("Lately") and Best Song ("Where's the Love"). Pushing the bounds of any previous work, VoiceMale set out to push the envelope. How does a musical group faithfully pay tribute to such revered talents as Stevie Wonder and Queen, yet still define this as clearly unique and creative work? With this release, VoiceMale puts that question to rest. The group did not stop there with innovation, as VoiceMale did something the group had never done before - a remix.
