Stuck in the Middle

Stuck in the Middle (SIM) is Middlebury College's favorite all-male a cappella group. Hailing from the Green Mountains of Vermont, SIM was founded in 2002 by a guy trying to find his first real, not plastic, girlfriend. It worked. Sorta. Since then, the group has established itself as a force to be reckoned with, touring the East Coast from New England, to as far as Florida, as well as internationally in Japan. High-energy music and lively performances are the name of the game with SIM. Coming off of the successful release of its third studio album, clap.stomp., and with the group's inclusion on Voices Only A Cappella 2010, SIM is set up for an exciting future of singing, recording, and having a good time with its audiences.

From the revved-up beats of track one, a cover of Cake's instrumental "Arco Arena," to the last smooth and soulful note of "Sweetest Girl," the potency of Stuck in the Middle's third studio album marks this record as a breakthrough for the group. Featuring the energizing "Jai Ho," which was selected to appear on the Voices Only A Cappella 2010 compilation album, as well as a music video special feature of "Disarm" from SIM's last album, Melophonophobia, clap.stomp. is testament to the group's success since its founding in 2002.
This selection of feel-good, rock-out songs from the 80s ("Thriller," "I Melt With You," "Tarzan Boy"), feeling and sensitive tunes from Josh Groban and Howie Day, as well as the latest in pop music (Timbaland, Chris Cornell, Rascal Flatts) establishes Stuck in the Middle as a college a cappella group that, despite the cliché, is here to stay.

Melophonophobia
11 Tracks
Released 2008
Melophonophobia means "the fear of a cappella" and is Stuck in the Middle's second studio album. Recorded in the summer of 2007 at TapeWorks in Connecticut and released in the spring of 2008, the album upholds the philosophy that a cappella should be fun and accessible above all else. It features songs from Three Dog Night's classic "Joy to the World" to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" to the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights." With variety and pizazz, the album not only sounds good, it feels good too.

SIM spent 10 days in Tokyo, Japan, last summer performing at universities and international schools. It was an incredible experience, both musically and culturally. We kept an updated blog for the duration of the trip.
