Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition is an all-male, student run, a cappella group that's been around since 1994. Our focus includes in-depth musicality and giving back to Virginia Tech's community by means of performances in events around campus. Our song choices vary from semester to semester giving us a chance to experience many different genres, and also to keep our audiences interested. To achieve performance-worthy songs in different genres, we encourage group members to enlist their time in arranging our music. Our members' hard work is obvious through our unique sound. Past generations of the group have received multiple nominations and awards celebrating musical excellence, such as being featured on BOCA in 2008, on Voices Only in 2007, and nominated 3 times for CARA awards.
Albums
Off Main
10 Tracks
Released 2009
Off Main is the newest of Juxtaposition's seven albums. The album features ten songs from drastically varied artists while still providing a connectedness to the theme of the album which takes pride in performing songs that are just off the beaten path, commonly referred to as "mainstream." The title "Off Main" can be taken literally since Virginia Tech is a campus that sits just west of Main street, while also being a loose implication to the avoidance of mainstream music in our repertoire. The tracks for the CD were recorded in our former music director's garage with our unmistakably professional setup consisting of plywood, foam, and duct tape. It sure is a good thing that there isn't much of a correlation between appearance and sound quality. We were able to record and produce the album in the timeframe of December 2008 - April 10, 2009 with the mixing and mastering done by Dave Sperandio of Diovoce.
